Sandy and Nora Talk Politics is hiring an investigative journalist to report on the influence pro-Israel institutions and organizations have had on Canadian media. Journalists have cited campaigns to isolate reporters who are critical of Israel and a resistance to challenging the Canadian government and Canadian politicians on their support for Israel. Audiences have noticed distorted coverage and anti-Palestinian xenophobia. We deserve a better understanding of what is happening and how this influence operates. Why are we getting such a distorted account of what Israel has been doing?
The successful candidate will not be starting from scratch. Work has already been done by groups like Just Peace Activists and Canadians for Peace and Justice in the Middle Wast, and significant reporting has been done by The Maple, the Breach, and others. We are hoping to add to this work through reporting that will expose the biggest drivers of anti-Palestinian narratives, the tactics those who are shaping Israel’s influence on our media use, what journalists themselves have experienced, and more.
We are looking for a curious journalist with a solid reporting background. We need someone who is both clever and fearless, and who can write about this topic with care.

Compensation for the series will start at $5,000 and will increase based on the breadth of the investigation, to a max of $10,000. We will continue to fundraise for this and we hope that we can hire a second journalist to work on this as well. This will be a contract position. We do not anticipate that this position will create a single large feature but instead, a series of shorter articles.
