Cloture/closure has increasingly been used to wham bam thank you ma’am bills through Parliament before anyone can really get around to explaining to people why said is problematic. In the old days, the length of debate before a bill was passed was longer – long enough for people to understand it, get upset about it and then organise against it. Now days, seconds after it’s begun, its over and passed.
Speaking of loss of sovereignty, any predictions on how many minutes of debate there will be before closure is called on the USMCA / CUSMA / New NAFTA / NAFTA 2.0 bill to be introduced next week?
